📧 Mail: The Message List

These work whenever the message list has focus (click any message first):

Moving Around

  • / : Move to the previous or next message.
  • Home / End: Jump to the first or last message.
  • Page Up / Page Down: Previous or next page of the list.
  • : Expand the selected conversation thread (press again to step into its first message); : collapse it. (Threaded mode.)

Selecting

  • Shift+/ (or Shift+Home/End): Extend the selection.
  • Ctrl+/: Move the focus without changing the selection, then Space: add or remove the focused message from the selection.
  • Ctrl+A: Select every message in the folder.
  • With the mouse: Ctrl+click adds a message to the selection; Shift+click selects a range.

Acting

  • Enter: Open the selected message.
  • Delete or Backspace: Delete the selected messages.
  • Esc: Clear the selection; Tab: leave the list.

🏷️ Labels

With messages selected in the message list (and label shortcuts enabled, which is the default):

  • 1 through 9: Toggle your first nine labels, in the order set in your label manager.
  • 0: Remove all labels from the selected messages.

The shortcuts apply to every selected message at once, following the same first-message rule as the Labels menu: if the first selected message already has the label, it is removed from all; otherwise it is added to all. You can turn these keys on or off (and see this list in-app via the ? icon) in Settings → Preferences → Labels Options.

👥 Contacts and Other Lists

Every list in the webmail (contacts, notes, settings lists, folder manager) follows the same conventions as the message list:

  • / , Home / End: Navigate.
  • Enter: Open the selected entry.
  • Delete: Delete it (where deleting applies, e.g. contacts).
  • Page Up / Page Down: Page through long lists.
  • Ctrl+A, Shift+arrows, Ctrl+click, Shift+click: Same selection rules as mail.

✅ Tasks

  • Enter in the quick-add bar: Create the task (with any date and time in the text parsed automatically).
  • / on a focused task: Move to the previous or next task in the list.
  • Enter on a focused task: Open it (or activate the focused control, such as the actions menu).

📝 Notes: The Editor

Markdown and HTML notes share the same editor, and its hotkeys work in both (Ctrl on Windows/Linux, on Mac; Alt is Option on Mac). Plain text notes use a simple text box with no special keys:

  • Ctrl+B: Bold.
  • Ctrl+I: Italic.
  • Ctrl+K: Insert link.
  • Ctrl+Shift+1 / 2: Level 1 or level 2 heading.
  • Alt+Shift+5: Strikethrough.
  • Alt+Shift+Q: Quote.
  • Alt+Shift+L: Horizontal line.
  • Alt+Shift+I: Insert image.

✉️ Mail: The HTML Composer

When composing in HTML mode, the rich-text editor has its own keys (Ctrl is on Mac):

  • Ctrl+B / I / U: Bold, italic, underline.
  • Ctrl+Z: Undo; Ctrl+Y or Ctrl+Shift+Z: Redo.
  • Ctrl+K: Insert or edit a link.
  • Shift+Alt+1 through 6: Heading levels 1-6.
  • Shift+Alt+7: Back to a normal paragraph.

🌐 Everywhere: Menus and Dialogs

  • / : Move through the items of an open menu.
  • Tab / Shift+Tab: Next or previous item; tabbing past the end closes the menu.
  • Esc: Close the current menu or dialog.
  • Enter: Activate the focused item, button, or checkbox.
